Helping You Plan Your Hikes
Planning is easy and fun. I will help you think of what you need, how to plan a route, how to adjust your plans, and judge what's ahead of you.
Who will you hike with? Alone or in a group?
Walking alone and walking in groups are different. Which do you prefer? What are things to think about? My long experience as a guide will help you think through your preferences.
Motivation Management
Your first motivation may be driven from the desire to change your life. Hiking is attractive, but how can you take the first steps, then keep going, longer, farther, happier? As a trained coach with a PhD in human ecology, I have a full career of helping people reach their goals, and staying with them.
En Route Trip Consultation
Even when you are on your hike, you may have questions on which you might want help, or guidance. We can arrange that I am on call during your entire walk, so that you can feel the security of knowing that advice is never far away. In some cases, you may arrange for me to walk with you.

About Me
My name is Richard Langlais. I am passionate about hiking and helping others to discover and experience how wonderful it is. In over 45 years of guiding people in exploring their own potential to live creative and wonderful lives, I've realised that helping others is my most rewarding activity. That's why I want to guide you to finding your own path, with hiking as the method and the action.
In my early years, I lived in the Canadian Rockies, exploring thousands of kilometres of wilderness trails for weeks at a time, both alone and with others. I worked as a guide for the national parks service, where helping others came naturally. I saw how people lit up when they were introduced to nature's wonders and their own ability to experience them.
After extensively exploring (on foot) the Himalaya, eastern Tibet, Greenland, the circumpolar Arctic, much of Europe and the Nordic countries, I've decided to dedicate the rest of my life to helping others. I know that showing and helping others how to develop their own capacity to explore and enjoy the wide world of nature will be the best way to pass on all the knowledge and wisdom that I have accumulated and refined. I would love to talk with you about this, and hear what your thoughts are, to learn what you would like to experience, and how I can help you towards that dream. You can dare to wish for My Dream Hike to really happen!

“One of my lifetime dreams was to walk the pilgrim trail to Santiago de Compostela, in Spain. It seemed to be so fulfilling and challenging. Finally, when I was almost 80, I managed to travel to the beginning of the Spanish section, and began walking. On the first day, there is an enormous climb over the Pyrenees and I'd never done anything like that before, and my knees started bothering me. This tall fellow came up behind me and asked if he could help. That was Richard, of course. He was so calm and asked if he could give me some tips, so that my knees wouldn't be so strained. It worked immediately, and we kept walking together. Every day he taught me a new tip that made all the difference. Without his help I never would have fulfilled this dream, and since then I consult with him regularly.”
